Dave "Bookie" Bookman
IN MEMORY OF DAVE “BOOKIE” BOOKMAN
May 30, 1960 – May 21, 2019
On May 29th, 2019, Indie88 Toronto created an initiative to honour the memory of long-time radio personality Dave “Bookie” Bookman. Dave was a passionate music fan and advocate, always wanting to share the latest – with a soft-spot for the underdog.
Indie88 aired an all-day broadcast, “A Day to Make Music Count,” seeking donations in Bookie’s memory to MusiCounts. The broadcast was anchored by the Josie Dye show, with support from Indie88 hosts Brent Albrecht and Sarah Burke.
During the all-day broadcast, Indie88 matched the first $10,000 worth of listener donations. The initial goal of $10,000 listener donations was achieved by 9:30am and matched to make $20,000. The goal was then raised to $40,000 before 6pm. At 4pm, it was raised one last time to $50,000. By the end of the day, Indie88 and supporters raised over $75,000! Thank you to everyone who donated and continues to donate to keep his legacy alive.
MusiCounts and Indie88 believe that children having access to music programs is essential. In the spirit of our friend Bookie, let’s give Canadian music a future and make music count!
Indie88 is proud to support the MusiCounts Band Aid Program, putting musical instruments, resources, and equipment into the hands of kids who need them most.
Teachers can apply to receive up to $15,000 in MusiCounts instruments for their school’s music program! Donate to MusiCounts in Bookie's honour by filling out the donation form below.
Note: please ensure your desired gift amount is selected and highlighted in teal below before submitting your donation.
