Congrats to the 2023 MusiCounts Community Music Program Recipients
October 16, 2023
This year, we’re awarding $160,000 worth of musical instruments, equipment and resources to 13 community nonprofit organizations across Canada through the 2023 MusiCounts Community Music Program!
The MusiCounts Community Music Program awards up to $15,000 for musical instruments, equipment, and resources to community groups or not-for-profit organizations who deliver music programs to youth up to the age of 25. To date, the program has supported 284 community organizations across Canada and thousands of youth participants with over $4 million in instruments, resources, and equipment.
Youth music-making is happening in communities across the country, and the 2023 MusiCounts Community Music Program recipients mirror this national breadth. MusiCounts is proud to support organizations that meet the unique needs of young people in their community.
In the West, Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society will use the funds to start a new program for local youth, where they’ll engage in traditional Indigenous drum-making, singing, and dancing.
In the North, Fiddles North will expand upon their successful fiddle and guitar program, bringing their music workshops to two new communities in Nunavut. The program offers music instruction, but also a critical opportunity for youth to build confidence and connection.
In the East, the African Nova Scotian Music Association will start up HOT POT, a monthly music production and songwriting workshop, with the funds from the program. Youth from the area will be able to engage in the production suites, a recording studio, and performance opportunities through this new program.
