Alice (Palmer) Barrett left us on March 22nd in Burlington after a full life. Born on New Year’s Eve in 1929 in Winnipeg, Alice was the youngest of four sisters, all of whom predeceased her. Though the Palmer sisters made their way to California, and Alice later to Ontario, the family remained closely connected.

Alice met her beloved husband, Victor Leslie Barrett, at work in Winnipeg. She was a devoted mother to Leslie (Hardie), Chris (Marion), and Elizabeth (David). Widowed far too young in 1982, Alice carried on with strength, always finding comfort in her family and friends.

Her grandchildren brought her endless happiness and kept her wonderfully busy: Christa Weitzman (Bram), Callie Sanderson (Noah), Rachel Groen (Caleb), Jaime Zawadski (Lewis), and Justin Zawadski. Alice was an engaged, proud Great Nan to Morgan Barrett, Aaron, Jake, and Alex Arshinoff, Mae and Wesley Groen.

During her time in Windsor, she discovered a love of curling. Alice remained active in the sport for many years, especially relishing the community and friendships at Thornhill Country Club.

Alice spent 25 years working in the record industry with A&M and PolyGram, a chapter that reflected her love of music and lively spirit. Family and friends referred to her as “Rock and Roll Alice” in awe of her relationships with countless music legends and ability to groove. In her later years, she gave her time volunteering with the National Ballet of Canada.

Her life journey took her through Winnipeg, Windsor, Thornhill, and Richmond Hill before she found her special place—her beloved “C-berry” in Collingwood. Bought in 1983, the condominium brought her endless joy. She loved the drives through the surrounding farm fields, which inspired her unique and extensive cow collection.

Above all, Alice will be remembered for her warmth and her ability to acknowledge life’s moments in a thoughtful card. We will all remember her bright, unmistakable laugh. Alice was always researching new recipes and appliances and especially enjoying food. She delighted in life’s little pleasures and carried great conversations.
