We are pleased to announce the Fellows of the MusiCounts Fellowship for Emerging Songwriters & Composers.

The MusiCounts Fellowship for Emerging Songwriters & Composers is a new era in Canadian repertoire. This national program is designed to elevate Canada’s next generation of music creators, while closing a gap in the educational landscape by generating new, open-access Canadian repertoire for classroom use across the country.

Each songwriter Fellow will be paired with a Composer Fellow. The Songwriter Fellow provides an original song, and the Composer Fellow reimagines the song, arranging it for concert band, choir, or other educational ensemble. Complete scores and parts will be housed on the MusiCounts website for teachers to access free of charge.

The new scores generated by the Fellows will be the centerpiece of the winter 2027 cycle of the CBC Canadian Music Class Challenge, powered by MusiCounts.

In addition to a $7,500 funding package, the Songwriter and Composer Fellows will receive creative and career guidance from the Fellowship’s mentors: Canadian Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee and JUNO Award-winning artist Nemahsis, and acclaimed composer of educational repertoire Cait Nishimura.
