Our School Music Funding Programs
MusiCounts’ School Music Funding Programs support all approaches to music education through two separate funding programs: MusiCounts Band Aid Program and the MusiCounts Slaight Family Foundation Innovation Fund.
Both funds grant schools in Canada up to $20,000 for the purchase of instruments, equipment, and resources to make music education accessible, sustainable, and inclusive for youth in their community.
In 2026, MusiCounts allocated an unprecedented $1.4 million to 96 schools across Canada. In celebration of our 30th anniversary, MusiCounts is committed to building on that momentum and investing even more through our School Music Funding Programs in 2027.
MusiCounts Band Aid Program
Apply for up to $20,000 for instruments, equipment, and resources for traditional forms of music education. Whether you’re sustaining an existing program or building something new, this program is for educators delivering band or orchestra programs, Orff ensembles, guitar & ukulele groups, and more.
MusiCounts Slaight Family Foundation Innovation Fund
Apply for up to $20,000 for instruments, equipment, resources, and clinician fees to support technology-forward, contemporary, or culturally-specific music programs in schools. Whether it be Indigenous drumming, hip hop, rock band or music production, this new MusiCounts funding stream aims to empower innovation in music education in Canada.
How to Apply
Let MusiCounts take the guesswork out of applying for funds. The first step in applying for any of our School Music Funding Programs is to complete the Intake Form. Within two business days of submitting your Intake Form, you’ll be prompted to complete an application form for the MusiCounts Band Aid Program or the MusiCounts Slaight Family Foundation Innovation Fund.

New this year: MusiCounts recognizes that some schools may be applying at an earlier stage of program development. These applicants may have a strong rationale for why music education is needed at their school, but may not yet have a fully developed purchasing plan, implementation model, or access to specialized music education expertise. Through the Intake Form, MusiCounts may direct these applicants to a unique application pathway that allows them to describe what they hope to build, what support they need, and where mentorship would be most helpful. For some successful applicants, grant funds may be paired with expert guidance to help shape the final request, support early implementation, and connect educators with relevant classroom and professional development resources.
