Live Sound
In any situation where someone is listening to something, there are people who have built their career around making sure it sounds great.
As Rena Kozak, Audio Engineer at Soundpony Audio & Studio Saint Zo explains, when it comes to live music, a lot more goes into crafting the perfect-sounding concert than you might think. In her first video, Rena breaks down the wide range of roles involved in the audio engineering world, particularly in the live music space. From running the mix that audiences hear, overseeing the sound that the musicians hear while performing, to stage technicians, to instrument technicians; the career options in live music sound are huge.
Here, Rena gets into the specifics on what is involved in being a sound person at a live music venue, also known as a house sound technician. Venues of all sizes have their own sound system, and professionals are required to manage this, and coordinate with touring musicians to ensure they have what they need when they perform at their venue.
In her final video, Rena talks about how she got started in live sound and how she loves to be creative in a more behind the scenes role.
Rena Kozak has been doing sound for over 20 years. Having started in recording studios, then moving into live sound via theatre, Rena has spent the past five years of her career touring internationally as a front of house engineer, monitor engineer, tour manager, and production coordinator for acts ranging from Maggie Rogers to The Strokes.
As COVID puts an indefinite hold on travel and live events, Rena is working hard to develop her Montreal recording studio, Studio Saint Zo, as well as launch a pro audio equipment repair business to fill the time until she can see the world through music again.
