It’s time to apply for the MusiCounts Band Aid Program! We invite schools to submit applications for up to $15,000 for musical instruments, equipment, and resources to help deliver much-needed music programming for students.

MusiCounts' mission is to make music education sustainable, accessible, and inclusive by providing instruments, equipment, and resources. The MusiCounts Band Aid Program funds schools that most urgently need our support, whether it be to refurbish an aging and insufficient instrument inventory, or to help supply equipment for a brand new music program. MusiCounts Band Aid Program grants are best-suited to schools that are in the most urgent need of new musical equipment, serve high-needs and/or under-represented student communities, and those that have strong plans in place to utilize the requested materials. Teachers, administrators, and/or school support staff at any school in Canada are welcome to apply to support an existing music program, or a music program that needs our help to go from dream to reality.

Why MusiCounts

The MusiCounts Band Aid Program exists because music education is chronically underfunded across Canada. This results in the most in-need young people not having access to the benefits of music education. Learn more about the benefits of music education, the barriers that schools face in offering inclusive music education programs, and how MusiCounts’ programs address these issues.

Music can be a mechanism for kids to see themselves represented in the classroom. When diverse interests, cultures, and perspectives are introduced in music class, students get the chance to connect with each other and celebrate themselves. Music education can also create possibilities for students beyond the classroom; there are a multitude of career opportunities in the Canadian music industry that young people may be eager to pursue if their foundational love of music is built at school.

The MusiCounts Band Aid Program can support schools seeking to introduce or revitalize programming that is reflective of the students participating, through means such as culturally-relevant pedagogy or innovative music production technology. The program supports a broad range of approaches to music education, and funds can be used to purchase any kind of instrument.
